The labour-intensive restoration, which was carried out by experts from the Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art on Paper, Archival and Library Materials course at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design, took a year.

The exhibition shows the exciting process of restoration, from the scientific preliminary investigations to the framing in a special frame made especially for Hus. The elaborate project was accompanied by video artist Ute Woracek, whose resulting video loop can also be seen in the special exhibition.

From Saturday, 11 January 2020, the special exhibition "Survived: The restoration of a Cranach woodcut" at Freiberg's City and Mining Museum will be dedicated to the history of this work of art, which was thought to be dead, and its resurrection. Until 29 March, visitors will have the opportunity to trace the fascination of the image, which was created almost 500 years ago, for themselves.
